How We Were Almost Homeless

The past few days have been pretty stressful over here in the Batman abode.

It started on Saturday. We spent the morning going for a lovely three hour hike (photos here). We emerged from the forest totally relaxed when Luke got an email basically saying we couldn’t move into the apartment we had lined up.

There’s some background to this situation that I don’t want to get into here, but essentially we realized that if we didn’t find a new place to rent quickly, we would be without a home in six days. EEK!

Craigslist to the rescue! I immediately started searching for a new place to call home.

It was very discouraging at first. Since it’s almost summer – the biggest time of year for visitors/renters looking for places in Tahoe – there wasn’t much out there. What was available was junky (lots of “cozy” and “charming” adjectives were spotted) or over-priced.

Around 6pm on Saturday I got an email response to a listing I contacted. This one didn’t have photos showing, so I was skeptical. When we went to see it though, I was pleasantly surprised. It was so cute! We acted fast and within 24 hours had signed a lease and gotten the keys.

The place is a three bedroom, two bathroom townhouse with an adorable front porch, “cabin” decor, comfortable furniture (large wrap around suede couch), two story ceilings and lots of light.

Plus, it has a community pool, hot tub, sauna and clubhouse we can use right across the street. Two blocks away is the private beach at Incline Village, which we’ve heard is the best in Tahoe. Basically a perfect spot to enjoy a Tahoe summer.

The stress of the past days has been a little overwhelming, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason and that we’ll be much happier in this new place than the previous one. There is a ton of room for visitors with the extra bedrooms (we had a one bedroom lined up before), Luke’s commute will be better, we have a pool now and we won’t be living 50 ft from our landlord. Plus it’s only a $50 increase in our current rent.

We move in this weekend and I’m already thinking about having friends over to the pool, buying some pretty flowers for the porch and all the friends/family we’ll be able to comfortably have visit.

I will take some photos once we move in so you guys can visualize it with us. Until then, wish us luck with this move!

You Know What’s the Best?

A weekend in Vegas with some of your best girlfriends!

Girls in Vegas

Last weekend some of my college friends and I went to Sin City. While I’m sworn to secrecy not to share details about our trip, I can say we danced, laughed, tanned and spent way too much time getting ready while we reminisced about our college days at Ohio University.

This was my first time in Vegas not for work, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Beautiful people. Bright lights. Constant dinging of slot machines. Very little sleep. Hot sun. Invitations to have fun pulling every which way.

It was an absolute blast, that’s for sure. Of course the best part about going to Vegas? Coming home and falling into Luke’s arms utterly exhausted. :)

To sum it up, I loved and hated Vegas. I can’t wait to go back.
