Liz’s List : Victoria’s Secret Mascara

If you are like me, then there’s no real “strategy” to your makeup routine. I don’t wear a ton of makeup day-to-day. Mainly just moisturizer, bronzer, blush and mascara. But the mascara is key to opening my eyes. I don’t leave home without it!

I have tried a lot of mascara brands. Drugstore types to really expensive types. My complaints were usually the same … clumpy, goopy or ran out too quickly.

Then, a few years ago a Facebook friend of mine posted a recommendation for Victoria’s Secret Triple Volume mascara. It came at the perfect time as my usual staple, Benefit Bad Gal, had just run out … after three weeks!

I stopped by VS on my way home from the office and grabbed a tube to try.

I tested it out that night and really liked this mascara right off the bat. It’s dubbed as having a three-in-one formula that “volumizes, lengthens and defines,” which I’d say is spot on.

It’s gives your lashes a dramatic, dark look. It does not clump and seems to extend each individual lash in length. I have short, unimpressive lashes, and I feel like it makes my eyes pop.

I use a quick coat on my casual days…

and two coats for my “going out” look.

Plus one tube seems to last forever. My latest one is three months old and still does a great job. The price is fabulous too – just $14 a tube. This very quickly became my day-to-day mascara.

So, if you’re looking for an inexpensive mascara that will make your eyes pop and lasts a long time, Victoria’s Secret’s Triple Drama mascara is a great choice.

Introducing Liz’s List : Zo Li Gummy Stick Teether

I have found as a new mom, that all of my favorite items for Lila came as a recommendation from another mom, so I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite products. Think of it as my word-of-mouth recommendation to you!

I will be blogging about these products under the title “Liz’s List.” Let’s get this started.

Lila is in the throes of teething and recently while visiting with my sister, she gave me this teether for Lila to try out. It’s called the Zo Li Gummy Stick.

Lila went absolutely bonkers for this thing – chewing on it with earnest for thirty minutes straight. I immediately ordered some for our house.

The stick shape is the perfect size her for little hand to grasp onto. And the tip is made of a soft, gel-like bristle to massage her gums. I also like that it’s BPA & Phthalate free. And for $10, this is a product I don’t feel guilty buying.

These little sticks have become my go-to mommy cheat. When Lila starts getting fussy, I pop one of these in her hand and she is occupied for a good twenty minutes. I will warn you though, she gets suuuuuper slobbery while gnawing on it. I resorted to putting a bib on her to catch the excess saliva.

Anyway, there’s my first Liz’s List recommendation. :) If you have any products you love and think I should check out, let me know!

PS- I also revamped my blog design. Do you like it? I added some new features along the right side. You can also sign up to get an email ping with my new posts (on the right too).

Unexpected Gifts For a Guy

This Valentine’s Day, I actually had my act together to get Luke some presents ahead of time. I decided this year instead of getting him something he NEEDS, I would get him a bunch of small things he probably never thought of, but would think were cool.

Just some fun things he could open and be surprised by. Here’s what he got:

Batman & Robin t-shirt, because he’s my favorite side kick. :)

Man soap, because my guy likes natural body products and this one smells like black licorice

Coffee canister, because Luke takes pride in his coffee. We’re talking full on drip method every morning.

And finally a sweet belt buckle, because we live in NV and every man must have a belt buckle.

I put all his presents into a “bag of surprises” as I called it and watched with a smile on my face as he opened each present. Sure, they aren’t the most practical of presents, but for Valentine’s Day, they were just the right way to say “I Love You” with some quirk.

Handmade Bird Feeder: Perfect Porch Entertainment

One of my favorite parts of our new apartment rental is that it has a front porch. I don’t what it is, but I’ve always liked front porches more than back decks, patios or other outdoor living spaces.

Soon after moving in, I noticed that we have a lot of lively, pretty birds around our apartment and got an idea. Hmm…front porch + birdies = birdhouse!!

Etsy had quite a few adorable birdhouses to choose from. Click on any of the photos below to go to the listing on Etsy.

After looking at about 100 different birdhouses on Etsy, I decided on this affordable ($9.00!), red bird feeder made from an old barn door. I loved the rustic look of this one.

Luke used a staple gun to hang it from the awning over the porch and we filled it with some seeds we got at a local nursery.

Within minutes our yard was filled with birds chirping away. We went inside to give them some privacy to explore the new restaurant in town.

The one bird we saw the most of was this black & blue, regal-looking Stellar’s Jay.

This guy LOVED the seeds we put out but had a hard time landing on our “small bird” sized feeder. He kept sitting below it to check things out,  flying up to the feeder, deciding he was too large to land and kicking the house before flying away in the hopes that he could free some of the seeds.

It took about a half hour before be finally devised a plan to let him perch on the house just long enough to get his fill. It was quite entertaining to watch from our living room! I was starting to think we could just pitch our TV with all the action our bird feeder was supplying.

Who knew a tiny wooden bird house could make our temporary rental feel like home? :)
