My Groom’s Wearing Grey

Sorry I’ve been a little MIA this week. It’s been one of those crazy work weeks where my head feels like it’s spinning all day! Luckily tomorrow is Friday and next week is a short one.

Anywhoooo, since my dress and the bridesmaid dresses are all picked out, I turned my fashion attention to what my handsome groom and his men will be wearing. I was surprised when Luke, who has a very classic fashion style, requested the guys wear suits instead of tuxes.

Since I’m all about doing something unique and different, we’ve been looking around for non-tux options that would look good for a Spring wedding. My eye was immediately drawn towards grey suits.

Don’t you think our bridal party would look great with the grey suits and bright yellow dresses? The problem with finding a beautiful three-piece grey suit is two-fold:

  1. Three-piece suits are expensive! The one above from Banana Republic was about $300. We just can’t stomach asking our groomsmen to pay that much for a suit they may or may not have chosen to buy themselves.
  2. It’s nearly impossible to find the right coat, pant and vest sizes for all six of our groomsmen. We spent an hour and a half on the phone with one sale lady trying to track them down and ultimately had to walk away. We felt terrible for wasting her time!

We were about to give up on the idea of a grey suit until a friend of mine (who’s planning her own wedding) sent me an email with photos from a wedding she recently attended where the guys wore beautiful grey suits. Here’s what they looked like (note: this is a model, not someone from the wedding) :

It turns out this beauty is for rent at Men’s Warehouse! I was surprised, because honestly I always thought of Men’s Warehouse as only having junky tuxes. I was quickly corrected when we went to the store and saw that the suit is actually very high quality fabric and fits well.

Luke tried it on and looked very dapper. I can’t wait to see all our guys wearing it up at the alter!

I need your advice though. We’re trying to decide if we should keep the vest and thicker tie or go with just the jacket and a skinny tie. What do you guys think?

More Engagement Photos

Our photographer posted more photos from our engagement session on his blog! And of course….we love them!

I’m not going to post them all here since many of you probably feel the way Luke does in this picture when it comes to looking at photos of us…

Flowers to Swoon Over

This weekend Luke and I paid a visit to a florist here in Chicago called Asrai Garden. Elizabeth, the owner, came as a recommendation from our photographer Jeremy Lawson. Her store is absolutely gorgeous!

As soon as I stepped in, I could tell Asrai Garden’s style was right up my alley- rustic, whimsical, down to earth. It also appeared that we were fated to work with them after I learned that Elizabeth and I have some very strange name similarities:

My name: Elizabeth Anne Cron

Her name: Elizabeth Anne Cronin

My unique soon-to-be married name: Elizabeth Anne Batman

Her unique soon-to-be married name: Elizabeth Anne Kitchen

lol! We definitely had a good laugh over our similar names, although she admitted I won the most bizarre married last name contest. =)

On to the flowers! I brought with me a cover of Town & Country Weddings that showed this gorgeous bouquet that embodies the colors I want.

I adore the mix of bright yellow, green and ivory. Plus the daffodils, garden roses and lush greenery really showcase the best of spring flowers. Elizabeth agreed and offered some additional ideas like including peonies (my favorite!).

We also discussed bridesmaid bouquets with a green color, boutonnieres with green and yellow and a small “puff” bouquet for our flower girl. I can’t wait to see what Elizabeth comes back with!

She’s working on an estimate for us, which I hope our budget can accomodate. Reading her “wedding rant” (love!) I think we’ll be able to work something out. From the looks of the other weddings she’s done, I know we’d in good hands.

Georgous, huh? So what are your favorite flowers? Do you like bold colors or softer pastels?

Sneak Peek at Our Engagement Photos

A few weeks ago Luke and I braved the cold November weather to run around Chicago taking engagment photos for our save-the-date.

Spending a day posing for lovey dovey pictures is probably Luke’s worst nightmare, but they came with our wedding photography package, so there was no way he was getting out of it!

Luckily, our photographer Jeremy Lawson made use feel very comfortable and I dare say Luke actually might have enjoyed himself a little bit. =) You may recall that Jeremy is an amazing photographer. He has shot several weddings for girls in my office and I was awed by them all.

It was a really windy day when we took our photos and we were outside for a long time (I think I had some snot running down my face the whole time), so I’ve been nervous to see the result of our session.

Well, my fears were put at ease when Jeremy sent over these photos as a sneak peek to use for our save-the-dates. I’m in love!

We decided to go with the skyline shot for our save-the-dates so our guests (who are mainly out of town) can get excited about coming to Chicago. I also really love the “love” one. I think that might be a framer.

Jeremy took about 2,000 photos during our session, so I can’t wait to see the rest! Thanks Jeremy!
